An ice maker is the one refrigeration appliance with a drain as well as a supply. Get either wrong and you find out slowly, through the cabinet floor.

Under counter and built-in ice makers need three things the rest of your refrigeration does not: a dedicated water supply, a gravity or pump drain that actually falls the right way, and enough ventilation to reject the heat they make. Most of the failures we get called out to fix are a drain line with a belly in it.
We run the supply to an accessible shutoff, set the drain with continuous fall or fit a condensate pump where the cabinet cannot give us fall, level the unit so the water sheet forms evenly across the plate, and then run a full harvest cycle before we leave. First batch gets dumped, as the manufacturer asks.

It needs somewhere for the melt to go. Gravity to a nearby drain is ideal; where the cabinet cannot give us fall we fit a small condensate pump instead.
